Sri Sri RadhaKalachandji Hare Krishna Temple located at 5430 Gurley Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75223, USA, is hosting the world's first 24 hour Japathon. "Japathon" is an international, continual chanting of the Holy Names of God. It is mantra meditation. "In unison" means that everyone will be chanting each mantra simultaneously. Chanting together or "in unison" is very important because it is the highest service (expression of love) in association. When service is done in association, it multiplies the results many thousands of times. We invite everyone to chant with us “in unison” online at www.radhakalachandji.com, or in person at our Temple.
"The transcendental vibration established by the chanting of Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare / Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare is the sublime method for reviving our transcendental consciousness. The word Hara is the form of addressing the energy of the Lord, and the words Krsna and Rama are forms of addressing the Lord Himself. Both Krsna and Rama mean "The Supreme Pleasure", and Hara is the Supreme Pleasure Energy of the Lord changed to Hare in the vocative. The Supreme Pleasure Energy of the Lord helps us reach the Lord. These three words, namely, Hare, Krsna, and Rama, are the transcendental seeds of the maha-mantra. The chanting is a spiritual call for the Lord and His Energy to give protection to the conditioned soul."-Srila Prabhupada The quest for enlightenment.

Mantra meditation or japa, produces a state of intense focus and concentration that can carry one’s mind through the rest of the day. The long term effects of such meditation are much the same as the effects of exercising a muscle over a long period of time. During the exercise the muscle is performing at its peak, and gradually the exercise builds the muscle’s threshold, until it becomes that strong, even at rest.
Similarly japa, when performed with focus and attention, can subdue the agitating effects of one’s mind and senses. The senses, of which the mind is also one, are constantly being stimulated by the external world - by gross and subtle matter.
As a result most people run around endlessly, never reaching the goal of satisfaction. The words ‘rat race’ come to mind =)
By constantly ‘exercising’ our minds through regular japa we can train our senses to push the threshold of contentment.
Just like the muscle is trained to be bigger and stronger that it was, so the mind can be trained to be more focused and attentive than it was.
This makes for an all round sense of contentment and happiness.
“I recently heard a lecture Srila Prabhupada gave in London in which he talks about parrot-like chanting. He said that we should chant with enthusiasm — with love, with priti — not just parrot-like. He gave the example that a parrot may learn to chant, ‘Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna,’ but that if a cat comes and catches its neck, the parrot will cry, ‘Kaw, kaw, kaw!’ No more Krishna. Srila Prabhupada said that if we just chant externally, artificially, and our minds and hearts are somewhere else, then at the time of death there will be no ‘Hare Krishna’ — just ‘kaw, kaw.’ So we have to practice and come to truly chant with enthusiasm, affection, and feeling. Then we will be able to actually chant and remember Krishna at the time of death. Otherwise, it is not so easy.” HH Giriraj Swamihttp://www.girirajswami.com/?p=2162

“In The Nectar of Devotion Srila Prabhupada states that five kinds of devotional service are so potent that even a slight performance of any one of them can awaken devotional ecstasy even in a beginner. You can feel happiness in your heart because it is a sweet promise that even a beginner — a new devotee — who has only a little contact with any of these potent forms of devotional service can experience devotional ecstasy. It is not that we want to experience devotional ecstasy as our primary goal in life, but what the quotation says to us is that the process works.” — Sacinandana Swami
